Why Choose the Balkans
Why patients choose Hair Restoration in the Balkans
1 million procedures per year
Turkey performs more hair transplants than all other countries combined. High surgical volume means greater surgeon experience, better results and lower prices.
Same donor hair — permanent results
FUE and DHI use your own follicles from the donor zone. These are genetically resistant to DHT and remain permanent for life.
All-inclusive packages
Istanbul packages typically include: hotel stay, airport transfers, translator, post-op medications, PRP session and unlimited 12-month follow-up — unlike UK where each item is charged separately.
Certified surgeons
BalcanCare partner surgeons are certified by the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) — the global professional body for hair transplant surgeons.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hair Restoration Abroad — FAQs
How many grafts do I need?▾
The number depends on your Norwood scale grade and donor density. Typically: NW2–3: 1,500–2,500 grafts; NW4: 2,500–3,500 grafts; NW5–6: 3,500–5,000 grafts. Send us a photo of your hairline and donor area for a free graft estimate.
What is the difference between FUE and DHI?▾
FUE extracts follicles with a micro-punch, creates recipient channels, then implants grafts. DHI uses a Choi implanter pen that extracts and implants in one step — giving more directional control and potentially better density. DHI is slower and costs more but suits smaller areas and hairline reconstruction.
When will I see results?▾
Hair grows in cycles: transplanted hair sheds at 3–6 weeks (normal shock loss), new growth begins at 3–4 months, visible improvement at 6 months, and final results at 12–18 months. 90–95% of transplanted grafts typically survive long-term.
Is the procedure painful?▾
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. You may feel initial needle pricks during anaesthetic injection (now often administered via needle-free pressure systems). During the procedure itself patients typically watch TV or sleep.
Can I fly back the next day?▾
Yes. Most Istanbul clinics schedule the procedure on day 1, rest on day 2, first wash and check on day 3, fly home day 3 or 4. Short-haul flights (up to 3h) are fine. The grafts are fully anchored by day 3.
What if my transplant doesn't take?▾
Graft survival depends heavily on surgeon technique and post-op care. BalcanCare partner clinics offer written guarantees and will assess a re-treatment if survival falls below 85%. Before booking, request the clinic's published graft survival rate.
