Your Patient Journey

8 steps from research to recovery. We guide you every step of the way — so you can focus on getting better, not managing logistics.

STEP 11–2 weeks before booking

Research & Compare

  • Browse BalcanCare clinics and read verified patient reviews
  • Compare prices between destinations (use our Cost Calculator)
  • Read procedure guides — understand what's involved
  • Join our Facebook community to hear real patient stories
Don't rush this stage. Spending 1–2 weeks researching saves you stress later.
STEP 2Submit an enquiry — response within 24 hours

Free Initial Consultation

  • Submit your enquiry through BalcanCare — completely free and no obligation
  • Receive quotes from 2–3 verified clinics within 24 hours
  • Send your X-rays, photos or medical records for assessment
  • Ask questions — good clinics answer fully and promptly
Share your full dental X-rays / medical photos for the most accurate quote.
STEP 3Assess, compare, decide

Choose Your Clinic

  • Compare clinic responses — quality, price, communication speed
  • Check accreditations: EU MDR, ISO, JCI, national certifications
  • Ask to see before/after photos of similar cases
  • Confirm what is included in the price — no hidden costs
  • Get the full treatment plan in writing
Red flag: clinics that won't provide a detailed written quote.
STEP 4After confirming your clinic

Book Travel & Accommodation

  • Book flights — Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet fly to Sofia, Istanbul, Athens
  • Book accommodation near your clinic — ask if they have preferred hotels
  • Check if clinic offers airport transfers (many do for free)
  • Arrange travel insurance that covers medical treatment abroad
  • Download clinic location and emergency contact details
Book flexible flights where possible — recovery timelines can shift slightly.
STEP 5You're in safe hands

Treatment

  • Arrive at clinic for final consultation and treatment plan sign-off
  • All BalcanCare clinics have English-speaking staff
  • Most procedures are performed under local or general anaesthesia
  • You'll receive full aftercare instructions in English
  • Clinic provides 24-hour emergency contact during your stay
Take photos of everything — your treatment plan, prescriptions, and implant labels.
STEP 6Rest and healing

Recovery

  • Stay for the clinic-recommended minimum recovery period
  • Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments before flying
  • Most clinics will contact you by WhatsApp during recovery
  • Avoid strenuous activity as advised — follow aftercare instructions
  • Eat and rest well — recovery is part of the treatment
Build in 1–2 buffer days before your flight home.
STEP 7You're done!

Return Home

  • Get copies of all records, X-rays and lab reports in English
  • Collect your written guarantee (implants, crowns, etc.)
  • Book a check-up with your local GP or dentist within 4–8 weeks
  • Share your experience — your review helps other patients
Share your results with your BalcanCare coordinator — we'll follow up at 3 and 6 months.
STEP 8Ongoing support

Aftercare & Guarantees

  • BalcanCare-verified clinics provide written guarantees on all major work
  • Contact your coordinator if you have concerns — we'll liaise with the clinic
  • Remote follow-ups available via video call with your treating clinician
  • Any complications are managed through the clinic's guarantee program
Most complications, if any, appear within the first 2–4 weeks. Quality work rarely has issues.

Common Questions

Is it safe to have medical treatment abroad?

In EU member states (Bulgaria, Greece, Romania), clinics are subject to EU medical device regulations and national health ministry oversight — the same regulatory framework as UK or German clinics. Turkey has similar standards through the Ministry of Health. The key is choosing a verified, accredited clinic, which BalcanCare does for you.

What if something goes wrong after I return home?

All BalcanCare-verified clinics provide written guarantees. For dental implants this is typically 5 years. Complications that require treatment are covered by the clinic, and our coordinator will help you manage any issues remotely. Your local dentist or GP can also treat complications from any implants or procedures.

Do clinics speak English?

Yes — all BalcanCare-listed clinics have English-speaking staff. Many also have German, Italian and Spanish speaking staff or interpreters. You will never be without a translator for any procedure or consultation.

How do I send my X-rays or medical records?

Simply upload them when you submit your enquiry on BalcanCare, or email them directly to your clinic. WhatsApp is also widely used for sharing medical images. CBCT scans can be shared via a downloadable link from the imaging software.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes — we strongly recommend travel insurance that specifically covers medical treatment abroad. Some travel insurance policies exclude pre-booked procedures. Compare specialist medical travel insurance policies and disclose the nature of your treatment.
